June 24, 2024, CHICAGO IL – On May 22, 2024, Armor CEO, Kelsey Mayo, represented Armor Medical in the final showcase of 51 Labs, MATTER’s women’s health accelerator. The accelerator focused on advancing the development of innovations addressing maternal mortality in the United States. The Armor team thanks MATTER and the 51 Labs program for promoting innovation in the maternal health space and supporting a conversation about such an important topic. We also wish to recognize the ten other startups that delivered pitches: BAKS Medical, BioticsAI, Ciconia Medical, Elythea, Expect Fitness, Malama Health, NUA SUrgical, Partum Health, and Vasowatch.

As stated by Dr. Elizabeth Cherot, the president and CEO of March of Dimes, during her keynote address, “The U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth.” Unfortunately, according to recent data from the CDC, maternal mortality rates are only rising in the United States[1]. To aid in addressing this issue, MATTER partnered with Health Care Service Corporation, Laerdal Million Lives Fund, BayCare, Parkview Health, University of Chicago Medicine, Organon, and Strykar to call on global innovators to propose solutions that would reduce maternal mortality before, during, and after birth.

Each company in the cohort, guided by Pamela York and Nicole Walker, participated in a 12 week program that consisted of one-on-one mentoring with industry experts, workships, interactive roundtable discussions, forums, and more. Each company also had the option to take a $100,000 investment from Laerdal Million Lives Fund, in addition to the $25,000 worth of services from MATTER.

MATTER is a healthcare startup incubator, community nexus, and corporate innovation accelerator based in Chicago. With the intention of accelerating innovation, the MATTER collaborative includes more than 1,000 current and alumni startups from around the world, working together to build the future of healthcare.
